Digital v negative

I visited my parents this Easter weekend with the thought of sharing my NI photos with my parents and showing them the results of the photos from the old Kodak. Instead I have found myself scanning into the computer old negatives from my travels abroad as a youngster. People that know me, know that I tend to misplace things on a regular basis, and I find that I do the same with my digital photo files. I save them somewhere and then cannot find them again, or I run out of space on my memory card and delete photos to make more room in the heat of the moment. But with negatives, you have a imprint of the photo and a paper copy of the print, that means there are 2 things to misplace before the photos are gone forever. There a number of photos that I have lost over the years through hard drive issues, and just accidentally deleting them. Maybe the way forward is really a step backwards, with modern technology as it is, why are we so dependent on digital? Ok, so sharper images, less hassle, but maybe we can get the same results from negatives still.

Can prints be too big?

I am still having trouble with my free prints that I received. I recently bought some poster hangers (pieces of plastic that the poster slots into), but even so I think the prints are too heavy and keep falling out. My next thought for the larger landscape ones is to mount them on some foam board and go from there. I really didn't think that they would be that difficult to put up somewhere.

A camera for coasteering

After an awesome adventure in Northern Ireland, I have returned to sunny England and started the mundane task of sorting through photographs. I feel that I have different categories of photos from this holiday: amazing action/sports shots, holiday snaps and ones that I like, but are a bit boring to put on Facebook after the sports ones.

I am very glad that I took my waterproof camera. I was able to take it with me and capture the action as it happened. It is not everyday that you are able to capture a photo from sea level looking up at the cliffs that you are busy clambering around. I love the shots from coasteering that show some of the crazy things that the boys got up to.

Waterperry

I went to Waterperry gardens for my birthday yesterday. Like the first time I went there, it rained. Apart from the rain shower it was a lovely afternoon.

I am off to Northern Ireland tomorrow, for some fun in the North Sea. I will be taking a range of cameras with me and hopefully get a few good shots.

Free prints

My free samples of my prints have finally arrived. I have been imagining various things, from smaller than A4 prints to huge blown up pictures of really poor quality. The parcel that arrived was much bigger than I was expecting at weighed quite a bit (not sure what the postage would have been on it). I took it back to my parents house and opened it in the living room. The prints are huge! All three of them covered the length of the living room.

Am very impressed with my prints, just not too sure what to do with them now :S

Old School

Sadly, my free prints haven't yet arrived, so will not be rushing out to give my business to the HP printer company.

As I am home visiting my parents for Mother's Day. I thought I would dig out my Mum's old camera, you know, one of the one where you have to manually advance the film using a 'rapid film-wind thumb lever'. I have managed to get the film loaded, with potetially the correct settings (using instructions about film speeds to don't quite tally with modern film), and am about to head out into the garden to take some photos of plants by guessing the distance in feet that they are away from me.

The results of my old school camera usage will be displayed later, when I have finished the film, had it developed and been to collect the results.
